
It is a commitment to territorial unity through the provision of transport infrastructures, thus satisfying the mobility requirements of the principal areas of demand and favouring the territory’s efficient economic development within the global economic context.
It is anticipated that the airport be connected with the future Transversal Railway axis, with a station forming part of its facilities and a railway line for mixed passenger and freight transport, to be co-ordinated with airport activity.
With the airport now open, the territory faces what is a new challenge as well as an opportunity to create new value-added services and activities that, at the same time, complement and gain from the benefits that this infrastructure can bring.
The international and domestic flights will, on one hand, serve to promote the Poniente area’s culture, historical heritage and gastronomy and foment its attraction for tourists, and, on the other, serve as an entry-point to different towns and to international connections.
The management model envisages ownership of the airport’s land-side activities by the Catalan government, to be complemented by private initiative in the second half of 2010; these activities include terminal management and those logistic and commercial activities associated with the airport’s activity.
